Downtown Reno is the place to be this weekend whether you’re looking for Santas or Scrooge. Events include a local production of A Christmas Carol and the ‘fast-becoming-famous’ Reno Santa Crawl where five thousand Santas are expected to gather under the Reno Arch on Saturday night. This year the crawl has expanded and includes add-on events, like a pre-crawl pajama party at the National Bowling Stadium on Friday night and a Santa Ski Day Saturday at Mt. Rose. The actual pub crawl is expected to draw about five thousand people this year, up from 1500 in 2008. Nearly 40 businesses in downtown Reno are ready and willing to welcome the revelers. If you want to take in some live theater before the Santa Crawl, catch a local production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, presented by the Nevada Shakespeare Company and Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. Curtain goes up Saturday at 2pm at the Laxalt Auditorium in downtown Reno.
Local actor and drama teacher, Cameron Crain, plays Scrooge. The cast includes some of Reno-Tahoe’s finest performers. For more information go to http://www.laketahoeshakespeare.com/holiday
I can’t remember when we had to choose between activities in Reno. Used to be, there were just enough events, that with a little planning, you could attend just about everything. Our Northern Nevada community is growing up!
The RSCVA has dubbed this weekend “Reindeer Games” and is partnering with the Silver Legacy, Harrah’s and other businesses to bus in about 40 contest winners from San Francisco and Sacramento, to participate in what’s being billed as the largest annual Santa gathering on the West Coast. Expect to see lots of white beards around town.
